Although the brick could not be exactly matched, Jerry did well in finding bricks that are very close and look very good. On my chimney, he repaired damaged joints and installed a concrete cap. Jerry is a thorough setup person. The key to repairing a chimney is to plan and build the framework needed around the chimney in order to reach all four sides. This took as much time as doing the actual brickwork and it paid off. The top third of my chimney had been damaged by both frost rupturing the bricks and also by being hammered with softball sized hail a number of years ago. With the repair, it now looks great. I also had quite a few cracks in the brickwork on the exterior of the house. Jerry used a tool to clean out all of these areas and put in new mortar and he did a good job.

Extra effort was taken to protect the house from all this rainy weather when they finished for the day, they would completely secure the chimney with protective tarps. I contacted this contractor for an estimate on some loose bricks and cracked mortar on my front brick patio. He called right back and made arrangements to come out and look that day. I had read reviews on Angie's List and thought they looked pretty good. He emailed me a quote and it looked ok. We had agreed on the areas to be point tucked, replaced bricks (approx. 10) and then he would seal & clean patio. He stated he could start that week, and wanted to come by and pick up a 50% deposit. He came out picked up the deposit and said he would start the next day. That's when it went South... He didn't start that day due to personal reasons. The next week we had some rain off and on. He did come out and grind out broken mortar and removed the broken bricks. The patio was left like that for about 2 weeks. Always some reason or other why he couldn't come rain, or busy. He finally came back on May 29 and worked in the afternoon ( we have him on security camera). Said he would be back in morning to finish up. He acid washed the areas only of his work, and then sealed work areas immediately after while patio still wet. I asked him if this was normal and he said the product he used this could be done. Our estimate (see attached) did not state he would only seal and clean the work areas. The mortared joints stand out from all the other red bricks as some is smeared over the brick. The patio still looks dirty in areas not touched. I guess I assumed that he was going to repair the broken and then clean and seal all of the patio. for $1400.00 The workmanship is poor, and I don't believe any sealer was really applied or if it was you can't tell. The patio does not bead up after rain like sealer normally does. I'm sure Mr Allen will have his own comments about what poor shape my patio was in, but again he's the mason, he could of quoted it for a better outcome and definitely been more professional .

The problem was with the brick on my house that was above the crawl space entrance . Several cracks had appeared in the masonry joints (between the bricks) that were below a window above the crawl space entrance. The problem was caused by the metal angle iron support (spanning the top of the crawl space) had rusted and become weak over time. The house was built in 1979. I had hired another mason to do the repair, and he had done a shoddy job. He had used a tan mortar (where mortar on my house is the usual white) and instead of removing the cracked mortar and replacing it, he had just smeared some of the tan mortar over the top of the cracks. The whole thing looked stupid on a house that has beautiful brick done by a master. Instead of trying to get that mason to redo his crummy job, I decided to call Jerry Allen to look at the job. He came out the day after I called and he was dumbfounded by the lousy job that had been done. He pointed out the problems and gave me a price to redo the job and I agreed. He came out 3 days after the quote, and he repaired all of the problems and installed another (stronger) stainless steel angle iron (that I has purchased prior to my contacting him). He used the right mortar, and he took out all of the defective mortar and the off-color mortar that had been used on the previous bad job. He came out the following day and did the final cleaning of the repaired surface. It looks PERFECT. Wonderful job by a pro. I would most certainly hire him again.

He was very responsive to all communications, provided a detailed quote, and was honest with us about a scheduling conflict that could arise on his part. Jerry did an excellent job with everything that he agreed to do. What was really impressive was how he handled the things he hadn't agreed to do. During construction of the new chimney, Jerry found a significant problem that required additional time and materials. He explained the problem to us, apologized for the additional time required to finish the job, and made the necessary corrections without raising his price. In addition, he designed some decorative brickwork to make the chimney more attractive than it had been before. When it came to the tuck pointing, Jerry again exceeded our expectations. He not only repaired the bad tuck pointing that had been done by a previous owner, he fixed the cement in our back step and replaced several bad bricks. Jerry's assistant, Nick, was polite and hard working. During the project, Nick and Jerry answered all of our questions clearly and completely. It was obvious that they had a thorough understanding of masonry and that gave us a lot of confidence that that job was being done right. Jerry's price was fair and his craftsmanship was excellent. Best of all, he gave us a great guarantee to stand behind his work. I would not hesitate to hire Jerry Allen again.

Our chimney is two stories and the roof has a high pitch. We contacted several masons and none of them were willing to do the work. They either said it was too much trouble or they only completed commercial jobs. Jerry came out and took on the work for us. Jerry did a terrific job and tackled the challenging height and roof pitch. He corrected some of the mistakes that were made with the original stonework and repaired some other damage caused by the tree to the stonework on the house. It looks great! BEWARE, This was a Horrible experience. We hired Mr Allen to replace a retaining wall. His work could not pass the Building Inspector's inspection because he was cutting corners with the foundation. He left 36 year old broken block, brick with failing mortar joints in place and poured concrete over the damaged material for the new footing. Then my wife also caught him sweeping debris in to those block to fill them up. Then all of his work had to be torn out. I had to find another contractor to come in to straighten out his mess and complete the wall. UPDATE, we went to court today and Mr Allen's law suit was dismissed, The Judge told him that he was obviously in over his head. If you question what I am saying just check the Clarksville Tn Circuit Court Docket. Good Luck if you hire this guy, you'll need it!
